My Tutuwahine (Grandmother) circa 1923
Hawaii Island has been my home since 1987. I have lived in both the Hilo and Kona communities. While I find Hilo to be a charming town with wonderful people, I consider Kona to be my home. My maternal grandmother, Irene Leilani Todd Murphy, was native to the Island of Hawaii, with connections to both East and West Hawaii. Many of our relatives were laid to rest at the Christ Church Cemetery near Konawaena High School. These lands were once owned by Alfred Alexander Todd, my Tutu’s grandfather. The Aloha Spirit and the Hawaiian culture are treasured by my 'ohana.
Real Estate has been a full-time occupation for me since 1995. As the former Director of Property Management for Mauna Loa Vacation Ownership and Century 21 Big Island, I had the opportunity to gain management and marketing experience in vacation and residential rentals. A six year stint in the timeshare industry (Adventure Resorts Realty, Inc.) taught me a great deal about resort development, sales / marketing, and owner services. As a part time staff member of the Kona Board of REALTORS®, I was informed on the latest in the real estate industry, ethical and legal issues, and educational opportunities. That position also offers a special opportunity to network with the local, state and national REALTOR® communities, as well as with local real estate affiliated businesses and businesspeople. Since leaving the Board in 2005, I have been acquiring and renovating rental properties in Hawaii and Colorado. I have also been managing and marketing my own properties.
